To the west of the town of Omegna lies Valstrona. It is a winding and rugged valley of wild and unspoiled beauty.
This valley is much loved by hikers. It is made up of several hamlets, including Luzzogno with its late 15th-century church and a pretty sanctuary, Inuggio, Fornero, an ancient home of turners, Sambughetto with its caves and Campello Monti. The latter was founded by the Walser, a population originally from the Valais, who colonized the high heads of the Alpine valleys in the Middle Ages.
Valstrona is the starting point for many excursions on foot or by mountain bike.
